QUIT HAVING SOFT DRINKS!

Quit : Quit : Quit : Quit : Soft Drinks::: Quit

Yet more studies are hinting towards an etiological role for soft drinks in various cancers. The so-called ‘caramel colouring’ in beverages like coke, pepsi, etc. is found to contain chemicals like 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI). These are prepared from chemical reactions with ammonia.

There are now a list of reasons to avoid soft drinks.

* 2-methylimidazole (2-MEI) & 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI) present in coloured colas are possible carcinogens.

* Indian studies found high levels of pesticides which are potent neurotoxins in colas in India, possibly due to ground water contamination.

* The 10 teaspoons of sugar in a non-diet can of soda is a health risk because it contributes to obesity.

* Drinking as little as two soft drinks a week appears to nearly double the risk of getting pancreatic cancer also.

* There is an association between people who have high soda intake and risk of fracture , due to osteoporosis.

Is there an alternative? Yes! Read on…Jagadguru Swami Sathyananda
Saraswathy openly proclaimed commercially available colas to be poisonous years ago and made an alternative Herbal ‘Muthy’s Cola’ available. This is a mixture of herbs excellent for the Gastrointestinal and nervous system, with a herbal flavour like cola for those who are
addicted to the taste of cola.

More on toxic colas:

Low bone density – Osteoporosis :

Phosphoric acid, a major component in most sodas, may be to blame. Phosphorus
itself is an important bone mineral. But if you’re getting a disproportionate amount of phosphorus compared to the amount of calcium you’re getting, that could lead to bone loss.

Another possible culprit is caffeine, which experts have long known can interfere with calcium absorption. Also, individuals who drink a lot of soft drinks aren’t going to drink as much nutritious liquid as others , like milk.

Cancer:

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is calling on the FDA to ban two types of caramel coloring both made with ammonia – Caramel IV, also called ammonia sulfite process caramel and Caramel III.

It called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban the use of certain caramel coloring in foods and sodas including Coca-Cola and Pepsi products, pointing to research that showed the additive caused cancer in lab mice and rats. Jacobson, the group’s executive director,
said caramel coloring made with ammonia creates the chemicals

2-methylimidazole and 4 methylimidazole. Studies done by the American federal National Toxicology Program showed those chemicals caused lung, liver, or thyroid cancer or leukemia in laboratory mice or rats.

“Most people would interpret ‘caramel coloring’ to mean ‘colored with caramel,’ but this particular ingredient has little in common with ordinary caramel or caramel candy,” Jacobson said in a statement. “It’s a concentrated dark brown mixture of chemicals that simply does not occur in nature. Regular caramel isn’t healthful, but at least it is not tainted with carcinogens.”

The additive is on the list to be reviewed at the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer now under way in France. Caramel coloring isn’t the only food additive to come under fire from the nonprofit watchdog group, which is also pushing for the ban of
synthetic food dyes like Yellow 5 and Red 40.

Also a new study has found that drinking as little as two soft drinks a week appears to nearly double the risk of getting pancreatic cancer.

Why The link with sugary sodas? It is believed that the sugar in the soft drinks is increasing the insulin level in the body, which probably contributes to pancreatic cancer cell growth. That increase in insulin is what may be leading to the development of the cancer. Even though the
new study has limitations, the findings do echo those of previous studies, says

Laurence N. Kolonel, MD, PhD, a researcher at the Cancer Research Center and professor of public health at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. “Since high-fructose corn syrup is the main sweetener in non-diet soft drinks, our findings and those of the present study are
quite consistent.”

So, we request all people young and old…..QUIT HAVING SOFT DRINKS
